Arthur Keith
Sir Arthur Keith FRS (5 February 1866 – 7 January 1955) was a Scottish anatomist and anthropologist, who became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Hunterian Professor and conservator of the Hunterian Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons in London (not to be confused with the Hunterian Museum Glasgow Scotland). His writings on Evolution, which gave weight to group selection have been largely ignored for half a century, during which group selection was almost taboo among scientists, a taboo encouraged by Richard Dawkins' 'gene centred' view of evolution. With a major shift in ideas towards group selection, currently championed by E. O. Wilson following publication of a research paper in Nature by his co-workers, Keith's work (which fortold much of what is now being put forwar) might now be considered seminal in the unfolding story of evolutionary theory.
