Evangelista Torricelli
Evangelista Torricelli (Italian: [evandʒeˈlista torriˈtʃɛlli]  listen (help·info)) (1608–1647) was an Italian physicist and mathematician, best known for his invention of the barometer, but is also known for his advances in optics.
