Kiki Smith

Her work has addressed the themes of birth and regeneration, and sometimes has Catholic allusions. Her figurative work of the late 80’s and early 90’s clashed against cultural taboos surrounding bodily functions. Smith’s early pieces also confronted subjects such as AIDS, gender and race, while recent works have depicted the human condition in relationship to nature. Smith lives and works in the Lower East Side neighborhood of New York City.
