Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka (Zulu pronunciation: [pʰumziːle m lamboᵑǀʱuːkʼa]; born 3 November 1955 ) is a United Nations Under-Secretary-General and the Executive Director of UN Women. Previously she was a South African politician who was Deputy President of South Africa from 2005 to 2008. She was the first woman to hold the position and at that point the highest ranking woman in the history of South Africa. She is married to the former head of the National Prosecuting Authority, Bulelani Ngcuka. On 10 July 2013, Mlambo-Ngcuka was appointed as Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. She succeeds Michelle Bachelet.
